CSA Oceans: a FP7 support action for JPI Oceans kicks off

On the 1st of September 2012 the FP7 project CSA Oceans was launched. During the three year project eleven partners from nine different countries will work towards supporting the JPI Oceans initiative to become fully operational.

CSA Oceans is a FP7 project to support the JPI Oceans initiative in its startup phase. The first goal of the project will be to facilitate the implementation of JPI Oceans. The project will propose tools, procedures and structures for long-term governance and operational cooperation of the Joint Programming activities. Furthermore the project will look for best practices and innovative solutions to propose new ways of interaction between the member countries of JPI Oceans and will embed baselines to measure and assess the impact of the Joint Programming Initiative.

In addition the CSA Oceans project will provide input to facilitate the development of a Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda and an Implementation Plan according to the vision and goals of JPI Oceans. When CSA Oceans ends it is expected to have built the momentum for long term European cooperation in marine and maritime research policy thereby making JPI Oceans self-sustained.

The project has a budget of 2,34 million Euro over three years and will involve cooperation between eleven partners of nine different countries:

  • Research Council of Norway (RCN) – Norway
  • Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competiveness (MINECO) – Spain
  • Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ) - Belgium
  • French Research Institute for Exploration of the Sea (IFREMER) – France
  • National Research Council (CNR) – Italy
  • Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO) – The Netherlands
  • Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) – United Kingdom
  • German Marine Research Consortium (KDM) – Germany
  • Research Centre Juelich (JÜLICH) – Germany
