Workshop: Scientific support to Munition in the Sea
As part of the JPI Oceans action on munition in the sea, the National Research Council of Italy (CNR) organized a workshop in Rome in December 2018.
Ammunition dumped at sea during or after wars constitutes an environmental and safety issue in many European countries. JPI Oceans has initiated a joint action - involving 12 participating countries and led by Italy - on Munition in the Sea to facilitate research coordination and exchange of knowledge across European countries.
As part of this initiative, The National Research Council of Italy (CNR) has organized a workshop in Rome, December 6-7, 2018, addressing key aspects where scientific gaps are identified and research can bring substantial contributions for solutions and/or advances in knowledge. Specifically, the event focused on the following topics:
- Knowledge-based support to decisions
- Large scale identification of objects
- Chemicals sensing and remediation
- Cost efficient explosions’ remediation
Presentations:
- Bauer - Digital Support of the Maritime Sector Classification of objects
- Boettcher - Chemical sensing and remediation the state of the art
- Cesta - Support to Decisions AI Technology, Knowledge-Based Systems, Agent-Based Modeling
- Koschinski - Explosions remediation accounting for cost effectiveness & nature conservation needs
- Ribera - The cross-cutting issues with Marine Strategy Framework Directive and Marine Spatial Planning
Documents:
The workshop was jointly organized by The National Research Council of Italy – CNR, Institute of Marine Engineering and the JPI Oceans through the support of the CSA Oceans 2 (Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Program, Grant Agreement No.696324).
