CSA Healthy and Productive Seas and Oceans (CSA Oceans) is a FP7 (7th Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development) support action from the European Commission which is designed to reduce the time for JPI Oceans to move from the preliminary to the operational phase. The project was launched on 1st September 2012 and will run till 31st August 2015.
To ensure that CSA Oceans activities support the long-term objectives of JPI Oceans, the deliverables and proposals from the CSA Oceans project are directly embedded into the discussions and decisions to be made by JPI Oceans governance bodies.
For this reason, there is direct interaction between the CSA Oceans partners and JPI Oceans governance structures (see figure). This will allow for activities and outputs of the project to be discussed, updated and incorporated in the JPI Oceans Terms of Reference and operational toolkit when approved.
Furthermore, CSA Oceans will assess if the governance structures of JPI Oceans need adjustments or further elaboration and if necessary make proposals for improvements accordingly. Thus, when CSA Oceans expires it is expected to have demonstrated the added value of European cooperation to the extent that the momentum has been built among the JPI Oceans partners to provide their long-term support, thereby making JPI Oceans self-sustained.
