On 25-26 September 2024, the Sustainable Blue Economy Partnership (SBEP) launched its first cohort of 19 funded projects at a two-day event in Madrid. Project coordinators, EU representatives, and stakeholders gathered to kick off the 36-month journey aimed at fostering innovation, sustainability, and resilience in Europe’s blue economy.
These EU co-funded projects focus on marine resource management, biodiversity, blue biotechnology, and the circular economy. Participants built synergies, outlined objectives, and received guidance on communication, data management, and compliance with EU regulations. A workshop on market impact emphasised the need for strong collaboration between industry, policymakers, and scientists. In the SBEP constellation, JPI Oceans continues to lead the implementation of strategic communication and outreach efforts.
Aligned with the EU Green Deal and the UN Ocean Decade, these initiatives aim to transform Europe’s blue economy while addressing environmental challenges.
