Facebook Live: Climate change & the ocean

On 4 November, JPI Oceans will host a special Facebook Live on how small ocean dynamics drive our climate. The event will feature one of four projects and its massive field campaign funded under the joint call “Next Generation Climate Science in Europe for Oceans”.

Oceans play a key role in the climate system and are also affected by climate change. As confirmed by the recent IPCC special report on ocean and cryosphere, ocean dynamics are a major modulator of weather and climate, including future trends and extremes.

Focusing on ocean-climate dynamics and how they affect the Earth’s climate and marine ecosystems under global warming, the event will welcome guest speaker Prof. Sabrina Speich, coordinator of the newly launched JPI Oceans & JPI Climate EUREC4A-OA project. Sabrina Speich is professor of Oceanography and Climate Sciences at the Ecole Normale Superieure and is a member of the Laboratoire de Metereologie Dynamique (LMD), the coordinating institutions of the EUREC4A-OA project consortium. The session will include a presentation of the EUREC4A-OA project, followed by a live Q&A session with the audience.

Practical details

The event will take place on 4 November 2020 at 17:30 CET, as a Facebook Live session on the JPI Oceans Facebook page. No event registration is needed. Questions to our guest speaker are welcome and encouraged for the live Q&A. Questions can be submitted during the event in written form, in the comments under the Facebook live post.
