Project Abstract

The aim is to develop a compact multisensor system carried on small/medium UAVs that integrates a radar sensor jointly operating with EO/IR camera to monitor marine areas and to detect sea debris and oil spills. The use of a Ku band polarimetric radar will offer a solution for 24/7, all weather surveillance with enhanced capability of detecting floating debris and oil spills thanks to polarimetry and high spatial resolutions. Based on deep neural network technologies, a EO/IR sensor will be used to classify the type of debris and the extension of the oil spill, which is an important basis for the coordination of a prompt response.
