Yekaterina Astafyeva

Yekaterina Astafyeva is the main contact point for the Joint Action on Blue Carbon, addressing the knowledge gaps in relation to Blue Carbon as a measure for climate change mitigation and adaptation. Within the JPI Oceans portfolio of Joint Actions, she manages the Knowledge Hub Ocean Carbon Capacities and the Scoping Action European Marinas Network. Yekaterina is also involved in the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030). She did her doctoral research at the University of Hamburg, where she gave a detailed insight into marine cross-kingdom liaison of microalgae and bacteria. She is a member of the Pool of Experts (PoE) of the third World Ocean Assessment (WOA 3) of the United Nations Regular Process for Global Reporting and Assessment of the State of the Marine Environment. Additionally, Yekaterina serves as a member of an expert panel at the German Accreditation Agency ASIIN for the accreditation of degree programmes in Natural Sciences.
