The JPI Oceans Blue Carbon Knowledge Hub kick-off meeting was held online on 24 January 2024. Nominated scientific and policy experts and Management Board representatives from nine countries were present. The Knowledge Hub aims to develop a platform and network to facilitate the synthesis, exchange, and integration of knowledge on Blue Carbon ecosystems across Europe. In addition to discussions on the scope for the Knowledge Hub objectives and their implementation, a focus on policy was highlighted as a priority and the need to explore opportunities for synergies with existing initiatives. Participants agreed on decisive next steps, including forming working groups focusing on an open access platform, state-of-the-art analysis and gap identification, and the development of a policy roadmap. The meeting concluded with a resounding appreciation for the valuable insights and expertise the Knowledge Hub experts shared and the potential impacts that its work will drive significant advancements in blue carbon science and policy.
