The European Ocean Observing System (EOOS) and JPI Oceans are delighted to have published the first two National Charts on ocean observing and monitoring in Europe. The charts offer a comprehensive interactive overview of national responsibilities for ocean observation and monitoring and the related data flows. JPI Oceans, as Chair of the EOOS Resource Forum, is leading this effort to build a foundation for improving coordination and efficiency of ocean monitoring in Europe.
By mapping each country’s ocean observation landscape, JPI Oceans aims to identify gaps, encourage cross-country learning, and implement best practices in national systems. This initiative aligns with EOOS’s mission to unite the European ocean observing community and advance ocean knowledge through collaboration and integration. The National Charts will continue to evolve, with updates made as new information becomes available. Feedback on the charts can be directed to the designated contact person listed on each chart.
