Aquatic Pollutants
In an unprecedented collaboration, the three JPIs on Water, Oceans and Antimicrobial Resistance, together with European Commission aim to tackle one of the most pressing issues facing society – the presence of pollutants and pathogens in water resources.
Blue Bioeconomy
The BlueBio ERA-NET Cofund aimed to strengthen Europe’s position in the blue bioeconomy. It consisted of 30 partners from 17 countries, and launched a total of four calls funding 49 projects. Since 2024, JPI Oceans is following up the funded projects and activities.
Changing Marine Lightscapes
The Joint Action on Changing Marine Lightscapes seeks to enhance knowledge and understanding of how marine lightscapes are changing through artificial light and turbidity, respectively, the drivers of change, the impacts on biodiversity and ecosystems, and how to manage these changes.

Ecological Aspects of Deep-Sea Mining
The Joint Action Ecological Aspects of Deep-Sea Mining assesses the long-term impacts of polymetallic nodule mining on the deep-sea environment.

European Marinas Network
The Joint Action aims to contribute to a better knowledge of marine ecosystems, and is centred around the research objective to develop a data-based understanding of the socio-environmental conditions within and around marinas in Europe.

Science for Good Environmental Status
The Knowledge Hub constitutes a multi-national expert group that coordinates research and innovation to enable countries to assess and achieve Good Environmental Status.
Underwater Noise in the Marine Environment
The Joint Action Underwater Noise in the Marine Environment aims to decrease the high level of uncertainty about the impact of noise through the promotion of specific lines of scientific research.

Climate Science for Oceans
In a joint effort with JPI Climate, this action aimed to fund research on ocean-climate interactions, to improve climate models and inform climate change adaptation policies in Europe.
Cumulative Effects of Human Activities
The Cumulative Effects of Human Activities Knowledge Hub developed guidelines and common principles for decision makers on how to assess cumulative effects of human activities in a Handbook published in 2024.

Ecological Aspects of Microplastics
The Joint Action Ecological Aspects of Microplastics was launched as one of JPI Oceans’ pilot activities, to study the sources, distribution and impact of microplastics in the marine environment.
Food and Nutrition Security
The Knowledge Hub on Food and Nutrition Security was established to foster transnational and multidisciplinary collaboration and networking in order to accelerate, further characterize and manage the impact of climate change on nutritional make-up of food, and to propose adaptive strategies to secure food and nutrition.

Integrated Assessment of New Pollutants
The Knowledge Hub on integrated assessment of new pollutants was a network consisting of selected experts and published a policy paper on Integrated Assessment of Chemical Contaminants and their Effects on the Marine Environment.

MarTERA - ERA-NET Cofund on Marine Technologies
The H2020 ERA-NET MarTERA had an overall goal to strengthen the European Research Area (ERA) in maritime and marine technologies as well as Blue Growth, funding projects in four calls. JPI Oceans organised the final meeting of the 3rd and 4th calls in November 2023.

Munition in the Sea
The Knowledge Hub on Munition in the Sea constituted a multi-national expert group which assessed risks, defined priorities and suggested intervention options concerning legacy munitions in the marine environment, resulting in the launch of an information portal on munition in the sea in 2024.

Sea Level Rise
The Knowledge Hub on Sea Level Rise is a joint effort between JPI Climate and JPI Oceans operating as a networking platform facilitating the interaction between research and policy on sea level rise.
